Virus/Spam Filtering

Tranquility’s junk mail filtering server employs a sophisticated system of filtering and classification, which identifies Spam with an accuracy of approximately 75-80%. You’ll spend less time sifting through scam offers, offensive content, and other unsolicited and unwelcomed messages, and more time using e-mail the way it was originally intended.

Our system uses the SpamAssassin package, which analyzes incoming messages according to a lengthy ruleset; there are rules dealing with where the mail came from, its recipients, words it contains, and even its formatting; there are several hundred criteria. Each rule has a numerical value, which is added to the “score” of all messages that match the criteria. You can raise of lower this threshold from a “Control Panel” Webpage for your account. It is also of note that there are rules whose criteria suggest a message is not spam; these have negative values, and thus pull the message score down.

Our junk mail filter allows you to employ blacklists and whitelists. If you never want to get mail from a specific address, you can “blacklist” it, which adds 100 points to the score of all messages from that address. If on the other hand you always want to see mail from a specific address, you can set the system to “whitelist” that address, subtracting 100 points, effectively ensuring that no matter how “Spammy” a message from that address looks to the system, it will always get through to you.
